The WNMU men's and women's tennis team had very competitive team matches Friday at Nebraska-Kearney despite the weather conditions, but both squads had tough but close RMAC losses to the hosts. The men dropped their match 6-3 to fall to 12-3, 2-1 RMAC on the season, while the women fell 5-4 to drop to 7-7, 0-1 RMAC.

"I know we have made many great strides with both tennis team this year, and our match play is improving very well, but we just met up with a very strong program in Nebraska-Kearney, coach Erik Burton said after the matches.

Burton continued, "The men's team had a very slow start with all three doubles matches . . . we came out very flat and ran into a wall in Nebraska-Kearney men. The men did have a strong showing at singles with 2, 3, 6 winning in that order.

"The Lady Stangs had a heart breaking loss after winning all three doubles but could only get a singles win from #2 Raquel Valdenebro 6-0, 6-1, lamented Burton. "The Lady Stangs were up 4-0 in the team match play at the time, but could not score another point in the match."

The teams stay in Denver Saturday to play at Colorado Christian College.
